Shannon Stapleton Entry for Reuters

Called "September 11th: Under Attack," this ten-image submission adds to our understanding of that days events. Part of a resource that was completely new for me---a six-year-old effort at awarding honors for taking pictures on September 11, 2001, and its aftermath---The Best of Photojournalism 2002. The Internet Archive has never heard of these pages before, so I don't know when they went up online. Almost the whole batch of photographs is unfamiliar to me (and where they are familiar, they are all part of the same entry,) which leads me to think they are of recent public vintage.

Mostly, these images add context to the famous shot of Father Mychal Judge's lifeless body being carried in a chair.

But this last image is of some interest. Where did Stapleton take it from? There were no buildings on the north-west corner of Vesey Street and West Street. Was he on top of a fireman's aerial ladder?
